Typed 1921 letter from Hall of Fame executive and then Pittsburgh Pirates owner, Barry Dreyfus to catcher Bill Skiff. Presented on the team's letterhead, Dreyfus is providing Skiff with details regarding his release from the Pirates along with full payment for services rendered - a total of $133.30 for 16 games played. Skiff began his minor league career in 1916, mostly toiling in the Eastern League, and by 1921 found himself on the Pirates roster just a few short weeks into the season. Skiff made his major league debut on May 17, 1921, going 2 for 4 in a 6-4 Pirates victory over the Phillies. Though Skiff batted .289 over 45 at-bats for George Gibson's Pirates that season, he was released by the club in July. After spending the next several seasons mostly in the American Association Skiff found himself back in the major leagues with the 1926 New York Yankees, appearing in six total games for the club. This letter hails directly from the estate of Bill Skiff and includes full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
