Pep Young was the author of a ten-season major league career, punctuated by four seasons missed due to military service.  Listed with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Young was traded at the end of the 1940 season, and subsequently picked up by Brooklyn and traded to the Reds for Lew Riggs, all before he played an inning.  He signed this card vertically along the left edge, some ink skipping slightly marring the presentation.  Young's signature is difficult to find on a card, as he passed away in 1962, just 54 years of age.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.  Paper residue is visible on the reverse, the product of scrapbook removal.
