Beautiful 7 1/8" x 5 7/8" cigar box label featuring "Hans Wagner" in ornate green script above a lovely green illustration of various baseball equipment. This is a beautiful label, unblemished save for the minor age-related wrinkling and minor discolorations that happens to all of us, including one deep crease at the top that appears to be a marking from some sort of paper clip. The reverse also has the date 4/14/09 written in pencil, tying it to other Wagner labels and proofs that have sold at public auction in the past. While much has been made of Wagner's historical refusal to be associated with any tobacco-related product the existence of Honus Wagner cigar box labels might suggest otherwise. A truly rare piece - certainly not unique as a similar label was once described by another auction house (as here's another example) - but rare nonetheless.
