The 1950 Philadelphia Athletics pictured on the presented card were a fairly nondescript team. Finishing dead last in the American League 46 games out of first place the A"s were the worst team in baseball. "Led" by relief pitcher Bob Hooper (who won 15 games while starting 20 of his 45 appearances) and slugging outfielder Sam Chapman (who"s 23 home runs and 95 RBI led the team) the team limped to a 52-102 record.Despite this the presented team photo is a special one nonetheless. Dead center in the front row sporting his trademark suit and hat is the great baseball manager Connie Mack pictured in his record 50th season as manager of the Philadelphia Athletics. Mack at 87 years old would give way to new manager Jimmy Dykes for the 1951 season just the second manager in the history of the franchise. This is the legendary Connie Mack"s last team his last photo and the last baseball card that would picture Mack as a current manager. An outstanding example of an interesting and scarce issue.Population DataPSA Population: 41 total graded 2 at this level 38 higherSGC Population: 9 total graded 0 at this level 9 higher
