"Truthful Jim" Mutrie was largely responsible for bringing major league baseball to New York City. Thusly nicknamed due to his penchant for embellishing details of the stories he told, Mutrie arrived in New York in 1880 and along with John P. Day began to put together a team that would play on a piece of land north of Central Park owned by James Gordon Bennett. Bennett used the land to play polo with his friends hence it was known as the Polo Grounds. Day and Mutrie leased the parcel of land and assembled a team known as the Metropolitans. The card of Mutrie (#336-2) is simply outstanding in quality the detail and contrast unimpeachable.
