Folded to 5" x 8 3/8", beautiful official New York Giants scorecard from July 8, 1889 between the New York Giants and Allegheny. Originally scheduled to be played at the St. George Cricket Grounds in Staten Island, the team returned from a lengthy road trip in early July and moved into a new Polo Grounds. The original Polo Grounds was destroyed to make room for New York City's expanding street grid. In early July, the seats from the original Polo Grounds were moved to the new location, and the Giants finished the season in their new location, winning their second consecutive pennant.
Scored in pencil, the Giants won the first game at their new home by a score of 7-5. The game featured a host of 19th Century baseball stars, including Ned Hanlon (HOF), Billy Sunday, Deacon White (HOF), Piano Legs Gore, Buck Ewing (HOF), Roger Connor (HOF), Jim O'Rourke (HOF), John Ward (HOF), Pinky Whitney, and Mickey Welch (HOF). Though the piece appears in VG/EX condition, a strip of paper loss from scrapbook removal is evident on the reverse, and some minor creases are also visible. Still, a very attractive and historically significant scorecard.
