Recognized as a ringleader of the plot to help "fix" the 1919 World Series, young Charles "Swede" Risberg was compensated with a reported $10-20,000 for his efforts to help recruit teammates to intentionally lose the World Series. Unfortunately the 26-year-old Risberg and seven other White Sox players found themselves banned from organized baseball for life by baseball commissioner Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis following a grand jury investigation in 1921. Risberg played several seasons in the Pacific Coast and Northwest Leagues before breaking in with Chicago in 1917. Graded PR 1 by SGC, this tough 1915 Zeenut does exhibit some surface creasing and corner wear. Ink writing on the reverse also detracts from the numerical grade.
