Superb 4th-year card of the Hall of Fame hurler graded NM+ 86 by SGC due to very slight edge chipping that is very consistent with the issue. In 1971 the 24-year-old Ryan still struggled with his control winning 10 games for the Mets in 152 innings pitched but walking 116 that season with just 137 strikeouts. During the winter of 1971 Ryan and a few others were famously traded by the Mets to the California Angels for Jim Fregosi (then a six-time All Star with the Angels). The trade immediately paid dividends for the Angels as Ryan posted a 19-16 record in 1972 with a 2.28 ERA and 9 shutouts. Ryan would go on to pitch eight seasons for the Angels winning 19 games or more four times setting the record for the fastest pitch ever thrown (a record that still stands) and striking out three hundred batters or more in five different seasons.
