The Junior Jim Bagby (his dad was a mostly-excellent pitcher across nine big league seasons) spent a decade twirling in the majors, breaking in with the Red Sox in 1938. He was an excellent athlete and eventually became professional golfer after his baseball career ended.  The signature he's affixed to this 1939 Play Ball is wondrously complex, replete with an emphatic underlining and additional embellishment.  PSA/DNA has graded it MINT 9 and the card itself, which is a little toned but looking quite nice, has been graded PSA EX+ 5.5. It's an impressive presentation all around!  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
