A middle-infielder with four National League teams over a 14 season career, Eddie Miller earned seven All-Star game nods despite a somewhat weak bat. He was better-known for his glove and was considered by some contemporaries as the best fielder of his era. This 1939 Play Ball has a grade of EX+ 5.5 for the card but the star attraction is his almost unreal black Sharpie signature, neatly written across the bottom border in an impeccably neat hand, bold and large in execution. PSA/DNA GEM MINT 10 is the grade for the autograph and it's practically an 11 it's so nice. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail. The signature appears to have been applied with fiber-tip marker, making it possible that this autograph is of a more recent vintage than the bulk of the 1939 and 1940 cards in this collection.
