A popular player with Brooklyn who snagged 1941 National League MVP honors for the pennant winning Bums, Dolph Camilli had five seasons with 100 or more RBI's and eight consecutive seasons where he launched more than twenty homers. He hated the rival Giants so much that he refused to report them after a 1943 trade, further endearing himself to Brooklyn's flock. Exiled to the PCL, he may have cost himself a potential shot at Cooperstown but never regretted his decision. He's signed this 1939 Play Ball, which has paper loss on the reverse, in black ink, with some minor lift seen in a couple of spots.  PSA/DNA has authenticated the signature, which looks strong after all these years. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
