A skinny infielder with a golden glove at Third and a big bat, Pinky Whitney debuted with the 1928 Phillies in a major way, knocking in 103 runs and hitting .301 for the season. He hurt his back in 1933 and was never the same, although he was a productive player until his final season in 1939. Play Ball capture him in an action filled warmup batting pose, with this example having some scrapbook damage on the reverse resulting in a grade for the card of PSA Authentic. The signature is a solid PSA/DNA MINT 9, in blue ballpoint and quite appealing.  Scrapbook residue and paper loss are apparent on the reverse. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
