George McQuinn spent the bulk of his career with the Browns, a fine first baseman with some pop who was seemingly lost in the wilderness, although he was on their 1944 AL pennant-winner. Traded to the Athletics for 1946 he was released at season's end and scooped up by the Yankees, where was their starting first sacker as they took the World Series from their Dodgers. A seven-time All Star, he played one more season and then retired. His brooding portrait on this PSA Authentic 1939 Play Ball may reflect his disposition in the middle of his long Browns stint, and he's added a black ink signature that's quite strong, rolling up from left to right. The autograph grades as PSA/DNA MINT 9.  McQuinn died in 1978, as a result his signature is quite difficult.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
