It is difficult to imagine, but when Eddie Joost took over for Jimmie Dykes as manager of the Philadelphia Athletics in 1954, he was just the third last manager in the history of the club in Philadelphia. He would be the last, as the team moved to Kansas City in 1955 and brought in Lou Boudreau as manager. The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail. Joost signed this 1940 Play Ball card in what appears to be black fountain pen, likely one of the cards from this find signed through the mail.
