Truly a renaissance player, Charlie Berry was a major league baseball catcher and umpire, and also an NFL end and umpire.  A New Jersey native, he served as an official for the NFL Championship game and the World Series in the same year.  As a member of the NFL's Pottsville Maroons in 1925-26, Berry led the league in scoring with 74 points.  He served as an umpire from 1942-1962, officiating in five World Series, and officiated in 12 championship games including the 1958 championship game between the Colts and Giants.  He passed away in 1972.  His signature on this card has been graded NM-MT 8 by PSA/DNA.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
