The 1912 World Series pitted the A.L. Champion Boston Red Sox against the N.L Champion New York Giants. Boston (105-47) outlasted New York (103-48) four games to three (and one tie) to claim their very first Fall Classic. Presented is a Magic Lantern slide depicting the Game 2 battle that ended in a 6-6 tie after 11 innings. With Giants ace Christy Mathewson on the hill Boston infielder Larry Gardner is driving a bases-loaded ground ball to Giants second baseman Larry Doyle in the first inning, which brought home Red Sox teammate Steve Yerkes from third base. Some chipping of the glass is apparent around the edges of this example while the central image has remained remarkably well preserved.
