Pictured at the end of his career, outfielder Wally Berger is listed with the Cincinnati Reds, though his best seasons were spent with the Boston Braves.  Berger followed up a stellar 1934 season, in which he batted .298 with 34 home runs and 121 RBI, with a nearly identical 1935, batting .295 with 34 home runs and driving in 130.  He began to tail off after that, the result of a shoulder and hand injury.  Still, he was just the seventh NL player to reach 200 career home runs.  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.  The card does exhibit scrapbook residue on the reverse, common to cards from this collection.
