Though the National Baseball Hall of Fame elected it's first class in 1936 (Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Honus Wagner and Babe Ruth) a formal induction ceremony would not take place until June 12, 1939. On that historic day the museum officially held it's grand opening for the public with all living members of the Hall in attendance. The offered Type 3 wire photo depicts ten living members (Alexander, Collins, Johnson, Lajoie, Mack, Ruth, Sisler, Speaker, Wagner, Young) who posed to mark the occasion in Cooperstown. Unfortunately, Ty Cobb is missing as he arrived late to the festivities. It's worth noting this classic image from the very first Hall of Fame Weekend has been gaining quite a bit of momentum across the hobby in recent months, with continued interest by collectors in material related to the occasion. Measuring approximately 8" x 10" the photo displays unevenly trimmed borders with Lajoie identifiied in grease pencil above his head. Toning is present to the extremities of verso which otherwise remains blank. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
