Interesting 3" x 6 1/8" advertising trade card, promoting a liniment product offered by Simon Kitchel.  Kitchel was somewhat of a celebrity in the late 19th Century, and his liniment was sold nationally.  Presented here is an advertising trade card promoting the liniment by way of testimonials from two players on the Selma Pastimes, a local 19th Century team about which little is known.  John E. Taylor and Chas. E. Petty both testify to using the liniment on sore muscles after pitching.  Chas. E. Petty made it to the majors, playing for four teams between 1889 and 1894, and had a lengthy minor league career as well.  The card is made of thin stock, and has been well-worn over the years, with some edge soiling, creasing, and an upper right corner clip.  Some minor areas of foxing are visible, but nothing distracting.  An interesting baseball-related 19th Century trade card, uncatalogued and certainly quite rare.
