Pitcher Bill Trotter spent parts of seven seasons in the majors, primarily with the St. Louis Browns.  After leaving the Browns in 1943, he returned to St. Louis as a member of the Cardinals in 1944, pitching in two games for the team that defeated his old crosstown teammates in the World Series (though Trotter did not play).  The card originates from the Shibe Park collection of autographed cards, an original owner collection carefully collected by a teenage boy who, in 1939 and 1940, obtained many autographs from players arriving at the train station near Shibe Park, and continued for many years to obtain signatures in person and through the mail.
