Sepia toned approx. 12" x 20" large-format photograph depicting the National League team prior to the 1939 All-Star Game. "The Big Cat," Hall of Famer Johnny Mize has signed and inscribed the photo with a date of 07/5/83, marking a full 44 years after the image was captured. Hosted at Yankee Stadium on July 11, 1939, it was the 7th All-Star Game to date, with interest further fueled by baseball's national observance of the supposed 100th Anniversary of the sport that season. Each player across the major leagues wore a special "Baseball Centennial" patch throughout the year, which can be seen on the left sleeves of all players in the image. Sepia-toned photo exhibits considerable wear to the corners in the form of heavy creasing, which is reinforced in several places on verso. From the esteemed Barry Halper Collection. Includes basic cert from James Spence Authentication.
