Hal Chase was a longtime first baseman who played 15 seasons (1905 to 1919) in the major leagues, nine of them with the New York Highlanders. Offered is an approx. 8.5" x 11" illustration by cartoonist Leonore Knight, signed by Chase, and depicting "Prince Hal" in a fielding pose with two caricatures below. The fielding pose of Chase is based on a well known, often duplicated image that also happens to be used for a 1941 advertising postcard from The Sporting News found elsewhere in this auction. The signature has been applied in black felt tip marker and appears to have faded gently over time. Some wear is apparent to the top-right corner and gentle toning is present along the top edge on both sides of the paper. A distinctive piece of memorabilia featuring one of the game's single most controversial figures.
