The Sporting Life W600 cabinet cards, distributed over a span of ten years commencing in 1902, are a sprawling issue of cabinets offered as a premium by the Sporting Life newspaper.  With more than 700 known subjects featuring the work of the renowned Boston photographer Carl Horner, the set is known today for its quality, stunning portraits and impressive scarcity.  As this attractive Three Finger Brown shows, a black-and-white photo is framed using a light olive green theme, which includes an ornate advertisement at the bottom. Based upon the Type 4 designation, the card was issued in 1904 or later. 

The frame to photo proportions are such that the images often remain free of corner dings and wear along the edges. That is indeed the case here, where the corners have worn a bit and rounded, although not excessively so. One small paper fleck in the upper left background of the photo can be seen, along with some light print snow in a couple of spots. The reverse is well-preserved and has just the slightest hints of foxing.  There are but four examples of this pose - Brown's more desirable uniform shot -  in the PSA population report.
