We lead off with an extremely early set of images depicting women's sports, with a page of woodcuts from the September 19, 1868 issue of The Sporting Times.  Given the tone of the illustrations, it appears to have been a "barber shop" type publication. A women's base ball game takes the upper left, while various other pursuits follow in somewhat titillating fashion. As a bonus, a Mark Twain short story appears below these.  The second page is from the May 31, 1890 issue of The New York Illustrated News features two arcane women's sports: whipping and pistol shooting.
