Tremendous mounted photograph of Hall of Fame player/manager Napoleon Lajoie and his Naps, presumably during spring training in Atlanta, GA. Taken in 1906, each member of Lajoie's squad is shown either kneeling with, or standing with their bats at mock-attention as if holding rifles. An impossibly rare image of the Naps complete with fellow Hall of Famers Addie Joss and Elmer Flick shoulder-to-shoulder with Lajoie. Though the photo itself measures only 3.5" x 8.5" this example boasts a stunning image of the highest quality, extremely well protected for close to 120 years by the 5" x 10" paper mount to which the top edge alone is affixed. Photo is filled with wonderful period details like the unidentified player kneeling fourth from right clutching a decal bat and majority of the players sporting their cold weather gear. We have dated this photo to 1906 due to the presence of pitcher Harry Eells whose entire career consisted of 14 outings for Cleveland that season. From the estate of former Naps catcher, Jay "Nig" Clarke (kneeling second from left) who famously caught Addie Joss' 1-0 perfect game against the Chicago White Sox on Oct. 2, 1908. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
