Considered one of the tougher Hall of Famers in the N172 issue, manager Connie Mack played baseball before he donned his suit and tie to skipper the Philadelphia Athletics for half a century. A catcher by trade, he absorbed all he saw and spent almost a half decade helming two teams prior to Philadelphia. Shown here in Washington Nationals livery, this image offers a clear look at the team's uniform as he prepares to hit a ball suspended on a string. N172 pose 285-3 as per Miller, Gonsowski and Masson's Old Judge book, the card is reasonably well-preserved, with a strong and well-developed image. The front is centered to the extreme left and exhibits corner rounding consistent with a century of careful handling. The reverse tells a story or two with some soiling and staining but does not exhibit the scrapbook damage often found in N172 examples with images this clear.
