Modern American boxing cards started in 1985 with a small card company in Knob Noster, Missouri when Johnnie Brown issued the first of his sets of boxing cards. The first sets were modest endeavors, with primitive graphics and rudimentary backs, but the sets became increasingly sophisticated in design and fighter choices. Brown claimed print runs of 2,000 or less, which is a very small run, relatively speaking. All in all, Brown issued 13 sets between 1985 and 2001. There is a lot to like about these sets but what makes the Brown's offerings impactful is fighter selection. Other than 1991 and 1996 Brown had the American field to himself and his cards were in many cases not only the rookie cards of fighters but also their only career-contemporary American issues. As fighters of the era work their way through the IBHOF voting, there will be a substantial number of Brown's Boxing Cards that will be must-haves for HOF collections. We are pleased to offer the following complete sets all averaging NM-MT condition: 1) 1985 Blue Border: stars include Marvin Johnson, Buddy McGirt, Freddy Pendleton, Mustapha Hamsho, Wilfred Scypion and others.  HOFers include Matthew Saad Muhammad and cut man Ralph Citro. 2) 1986 Gold Border: Rookie cards include Evander Holyfield (HOF), Pernell Whitaker, Mark Ireland and Orlando Canizales. 3) 1986 Red Border: Includes HOFer Ray Arcel. 4) 1987 Orange Border: Includes HOFer Azumah Nelson, Randall "Tex" Cobb and Larry Hazzard. 5) 1988 Green Border: Includes rookie cards of Oliver McCall and Sean O'Grady.  5) 1990 Blue Border: Includes rookie cards of HOFers Riddick Bowe, Michael Carbajal, Virgil Hill, Jeff French and Edwin Rosario, plus many other boxers of note. 6) 1992 Gray Border: Includes many HOFers, plus the first boxing card of former NFL great Mark Gastineau. 7) 1993 Yellow and Red Border: 80 cards, plus an unnumbered checklist and a Lennox Lewis promo card.  Rookies of note include Vernon Forrest and Junior Jones.  8) 1994 Copper Border: Includes many stars and HOFers, but most notably includes former Hollywood star Mickey Rourke, who had significant damage done to his face in a match.  9) 1997 Orange Border: Includes 16 HOFers and rookie cards of Butterbean, Andrew Golota, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.  10) 2002 Blue Border: 30 card set plus an unnumbered promo card of Sonny Liston, with rookie cards of Chad Dawson and Ricky Hatton.  An outstanding selection of modern boxing sets.  Ten sets total.
