As Babe Ruth’s MLB career was winding down, he reached an agreement with Quaker Oats to provide endorsements and stage promotions along the way. One of the many that emerged from that accord was using Ruth’s name, likeness and his baseball acumen to help produce “How To” booklets on various elements of the game. This lot features three of those booklets: How to Play the Infield, How to Play the Outfield, and How to Throw Curves. Each of the mostly ghost-written publications measure 3.25″ wide x 4.5″ high and run 22 pages in length. Inside the back covers appears an ad for Quaker Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice with an illustration of Ruth spooning down the breakfast option. Each of the covers sports a different color and boasts a machine-printed signature from Ruth. Though noticeably soiled on the front, all of the booklets remain intact by virtue of two binding staples.
