The 1953 Topps set often overshadowed by the beauty and popularity of the 1952 issue features painted pictures of its subjects many of which are oversized portrait photos framed at the bottom by a red or green inset containing the player name position and team name alongside a team logo. It is for a variety of reasons our favorite Topps issue featuring 280 beautiful cards each of which is a work of art unto itself. The card contains a host of important postwar vintage cards along with a difficult high number run and yet at 280 cards is not too large to complete. Presented here is the result of one collector's quest to build an ungraded 1953 Topps set - 147 cards most of which are extremely strong residing largely in the middle grades but often presenting far better. Moderate chipping along the red or green bottom border along with notorious centering issues can have a large impact on the technical grade without impacting the eye appeal of a card from this issue. A breakdown of the cards' conditions would be 5% EX-MT; 21% EX; 31% VG/EX; 33% VG; 8% G; 2% lesser. The collection includes five key cards: #27 Campanella (VG); #54 Bob Feller (VG/EX); #62 Monte Irvin (G); #147 Warren Spahn (VG); and #220 Satchell Paige (G). This is a tremendous group of cards representing more than half the beautiful 1953 Topps set. 147 cards total.
