The 1958 Topps set is a BIG set - the biggest Topps issue up until that year. Set in-between the company's landmark 1957 issue and its popular 1959 set, the 1958s are underrated, the simplicity of the colorful designs and lack of key rookie cards have made the set less popular than some others of its era. However, the large player selection has created several collecting challenges: notably a large number of Hall of Famers and variations within the set.
Presented here is a complete 494-card set, carefully assembled with strong overall eye appeal. A condition breakdown would technically be 4% EX or better, 16% VG/EX, 42% VG, 29% GOOD, and 9% F/P, though the set does boast eye appeal that is generally stronger than the technical grade. We elected to submit nine cards to SGC, which the following results: # 5 Mays (SGC EX 5), #30 Aaron (SGC GD 2), #47 Maris (SGC EX+ 5.5), #70 Kaline (SGC VG/EX 4), #150 Mantle (SGC GD+ 2.5), #187 Koufax (SGC VG/EX 4), #343 Cepeda (SGC VG+ 3.5), #486 Mays AS (SGC EX/MT 6), #487 Mantle (SGC EX 5). A visually-pleasing midgrade set. 494 cards total.
