Billikens were designed as premiums for a brand of cigars in 1923-24, during a short, active period of Cuban card issues. Manuel Cueto, a Cuban by birth, played for Almendares, who finished third although not through any fault of his. Cueto, a utility man who eventually played at all nine positions on the diamond, had a long career in pro ball and saw action in four National League seasons with Cincinnati and played part of the 1919 season with their Championship squad. This is actually a "La Moda", which is an alternate brand of cigars and significantly harder to track down than the comparable Billikens (all 60 subjects were issued with both brands). The card is a bit light in appearance, this SGC 2.5 is the only La Moda back of Cueto in their pop report, with none seen at PSA. Rounding corners and creases are seen, with a heavy spot of foxing on the reverse.
