In 1932, from July 30 to August 14, a total of 1,332 athletes (1,206 men and 126 women) from 37 nations converged on the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to compete in the 10th (Xth) Summer Olympic Games. Did you know that between 1900 and 1928, no Summer Games had ever been shorter than 79 days? But in Los Angeles, this was cut to just 16 days. It has remained between 15 and 18 days ever since. Offered here is an original “Official Program - Xth Olympiad - Los Angeles - USA” from the event, which touts “American Football” right on the front cover. On the evening of August 8, 1932, an American Football exhibition game was held as seniors from three Western universities (USC, Cal-Berkeley and Stanford) were pitted against fellow seniors from the East Coast's "Big Three" (Harvard, Yale, and Princeton). In front of 60,000 spectators at the Coliseum, the West team won by the score of 7–6. On hand to steer the West squad was USC head coach Howard Jones with Glenn “Pop” Warner serving as assistant coach. Inside the program is an informative article describing American Football to the masses as well as the team rosters from both squads for the exhibition game. The program remains in remarkably good shape.
