Paolo Testi was an Italian artist from the 19th Century. Amongst his many works of incredible art was this bronze figural statue of an old-fashioned baseball pitcher about to go into his windup. This is the original chalk statue dipped in a gilt coating and not the bronze recast often seen at auction; the originals are far more difficul to find. Measuring approx 9" tall by 5.5" wide at its base, the intricately detailed bronze creation shows the right-handed pitcher with the baseball still tucked in his glove on the right side of his head. The attention to detail of the pitcher’s uniform is uncanny as Testi has captured everything right down to the hurler’s knickers, high socks and shortened cap. The statue weighs approx. half a pound and Its overall condition is excellent.
