Chesterfield cigarettes were introduced to the U.S. market in 1896 and have continually morphed into other flavors and naming conventions for the various brands. This lot showcases a circa 1946 cardboard advertisement for Chesterfield featuring a pair of Baseball Hall of Famers: Bill Dickey and Mel Ott, who were serving at the time as managers of the New York Yankees and New York Giants, respectively. The cigarette-selling campaign was highlighted by “ABC” (“Always Buy Chesterfield”). The nearly 80-year-old poster measures 21” wide by 22” high and shows a number of moderate creases and a few surface abrasions.
