Retail countertop display featuring 1952 Star-Cal Type 1 and Type 2 decals of a variety of players. Measuring 13 1/4 x 21 1/4" the display features seven Type 1 decals and three Type 2 containing Type 1 decals of Hall of Famers Yogi Berra Ralph Kiner and Enos Slaughter and a Type 2 decal of Hall of Famer Yogi Berra. Highly desirable today the set was produced by the Meyercord Company of Chicago distributed in distinctive red-bordered wrappers. The display itself like many surviving examples is well-worn with several pronounced edge tears and missing cardboard along the top. As retail displays they were shipped to retail stores in paper envelopes and merchandised on retail countertops and were extensively handled by young fingers looking for decals of their favorite players. The few surviving examples today are typically quite damaged in poor condition. The decals themselves exhibit age-related wear but all appear strong and colorful. Star-Cal decals are among the more desirable 1950s oddball issues. Also included are Type 2 decals of Jackson/Miksis and Rush/Sauer along with Type 1 decals of Bobby Thomson Hank Sauer and Don Newcombe. Ships with a well-worn and water-damaged original envelope. The intact retail display lends an added element of rarity to the collection as the displays simply do not make themselves available often. Nine decals plus one display and original envelope.
