Important photograph hailing from 1915, Babe Ruth's first significant season with the Boston Sox (he only appeared in four games in 1914). Measuring a full 8" x 10" the photo depicts a youthful Ruth at the age of only twenty years old, flanked by his teammates, including three other future Hall of Famers in Harry Hooper, Herb Pennock, and Tris Speaker by his right shoulder. Indeed, 1915 proved to be one of the most historic seasons in franchise history - not only for the emergence of Ruth but for the team's 101-50-4 record, fourth-best for a Red Sox team all-time, with a World Series championship to boot. Though he did not appear in the 1915 World Series it was the first of three Red Sox World Championship teams for which Ruth featured, with the Sox of 1916 and 1918 also capturing baseball's ultimate crown.

Among the most sought after photographs in the hobby today are those related to Ruth's rookie-era, such as the presented example. Though this photo has been produced from a duplicate negative it remains a vintage example, developed within approximately two years from when the image was captured at Fenway Park. Small areas of obvious chipping are visible to the top and bottom edges and a small tear is present along the left edge. Verso displays remnants of paper still affixed, perhaps following removal from a scrapbook or mount. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type 3 photo by PSA/DNA. Originates from the estate of pitcher Smoky Joe Wood, a member of the team, and includes a letter from Wood's grandson.
