Unique original photograph depicting Deadball Era stars of the Boston Red Sox: outfielder Tris Speaker, player/manager Jake Stahl, and pitcher Smoky Joe Wood. The three men are depicted at their spring training home in Hot Springs, AK, fully dressed in cold weather gear. This 6.5" x 8.5" photo is known to have originated directly from Smoky Joe Wood's estate and the identifications written below each player are in Joe Wood's hand. Wood's signature also appears in the lower-right corner with "1913" inscribed below. Blind stamping to the lower-right corner is visible, attributing the photo to Boston area photographer Gus Williams. Handwritten notations appear on verso, including "87% Speaker" written in ballpoint and "Spring Training - Hot Springs, Arkansas 1913" written in pencil. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA identifying the photograph as Type 1, and a full LOA from JSA confirming the handwriting and signature to be that of Smoky Joe Wood. A handsome original photograph with notable provenance.
