Developed in the 16th and 17th centuries, magic lanterns preceded the modern day slide projector, allowing positive transparent images to be enlarged onto sizeable surfaces like screens or walls. Magic lantern slides found in the wild today feature a wide range of educational or entertaining subject matter, and on rare occasions baseball-related slides turn up. This particular pair depicts Buck Weaver in action for the White Sox during the 1917 World Series, with one slide chronicling Weaver's single in Game 3 at the Polo Grounds, while the other features Weaver colliding with Giants shortstop Art Fletcher at second base. Both slides remain fully intact with no apparent cracks or imperfections to the sturdy glass. Two original mailing boxes included.
