An outstanding document of the post-baseball career of Honus Wagner one of the greatest players in the game's history. After his playing career ended Wagner engaged in a number of business ventures including the sporting goods stores bearing his name. While not a going concern for long the chain left behind this interesting promotional piece: an oversized (7 3/4" x 3 3/8") matchbook. This example originating from the wonderful Dreier Collection that was sold at public auction in recent years is in outstanding condition probably technically VG but presenting much stronger. All its blue-tip matches are intact the striker unused and all the printed advertising information clearly legible and bold. As an added document we are including a photo (clearly a modern reproduction) of Wagner and a young boy ostensibly in the aisles of the store judging from the shelves of sporting goods behind them. An unusual piece commemorating the career of one of the game's legends.
