Sporting News supplement picturing Joe Jackson.  Scarce and interesting, the premiums were issued along with copies of the Sporting News between 1909 and 1913, each only distributed on one single day, the date of issue printed in a text box on the supplement.  This example was printed on March 23, 1911, really before Jackson became a star in the majors.  His 1911 season would be his breakout year, as the Cleveland outfielder batted .408 with a lofty .468 on base percentage, pounding out 233 hits.  Easily the key supplement in the entire issue, examples do not make themselves available frequently and when they do, bidding activity is brisk.  This example has been freshly-graded AUTHENTIC by PSA, due in large part to paper loss at several edges, caused by moderate tearing.  Despite the significant wear and creasing at the edges, the image of Jackson itself is relatively unblemished.  It should be noted that M101-2 supplements are typically found in lower grades due to their size, flimsy paper stock, and method of distribution - PSA has not graded a Jackson higher than FAIR 1.5, and has only graded one example from the set above the VG level.  One of Jackson's few vintage collectibles and the most important of all the M101-2 supplements.
