Attractive cabinet photo of prizefighter Charley Mitchell, a lightweight champion who often fought men 30 or 40 pounds heavier than he. Mitchell was the winner of an 1882 tournament organized by Billy Madden to find a challenger to John L. Sullivan; the two men fought twice, including one fight that was called a draw after both men could no longer lift their arms to punch one another. The cabinet is in FAIR condition with edge chipping and soiling, more notable on the reverse, where some handwritten notes identify the subject. The photo itself is clear, with excellent contrast.
