The 85-card Tomas Gutierrez set was the largest Cuban baseball issue of the 1920s and is also one of the most scarce.  Very desirable due largely to the presence of a good number of Negro League players, the card images were printed in brown ink, sometimes with black backs.

Born Marvin Ferguson, Red Ryan pitched in the American Negro Leagues for 17 seasons beginning in 1915, mostly with the Hilldale team.  In 1920, Ryan joined an all-star team to play in Cuba (which was winless in six games).  He continued to play in the Cuban winter league, pictured here with Habana.  The card has been graded GOOD 2 by SGC, but with strong eye appeal.  As is the case with virtually all Cuban cards, wear is evident, though the image quality is exceptional for the grade.
