Clarence Algernon "Cupid" Childs was a second baseman of some renown who primarily played for the National League's Cleveland Spiders in the 1890's. This N172 features his pose designated as 74-5, marking the year of issue as 1888, when he played 2 games for the Quakers in his NL debut season. SGC has graded the card as Authentic, no doubt due to the state of the bottom border, although it's a superb example, with great clarity of image and wonderful contrast. The reverse has an inked "Blanche" inscribed, perhaps indicating a former owner or admirer.
