One of Roger Kahn's Boys of Summer, Elwin "Preacher" Roe was a crafty, spitballing lefty identified by Roy Campanella as the best pitcher he ever caught. Roe won 93 games across seven Brooklyn summers and was a math teacher in the offseason but never a minister, with a nickname he may have given himself.
The sunburst background of his 1952 Topps card has always been a special one, on this example it's wonderfully vivid but the card is miscut, the image centered to the extreme right. Roe has signed the card in green using his nickname and it's a beauty. PSA/DNA AUTHENTIC.
