If he's not the best pre-Steroid era pitcher not in the Baseball Hall of Fame, he's certainly close. He broke in with Detroit in 1945 and while he didn't make an appearance in the World Series, he was on the roster and earned his only ring. After two seasons in the minors he made it back to Detroit and was traded after the 1948 season to the White Sox. where he spent the majority of his career. Pierce was a key cog for the 1959 Go-Go Sox and the 1962 Giants. A true workhorse, he averaged 221 innings over 18 season major league seasons
