Before Bo Jackson there was Jackie Jensen. A star high school athlete, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy but the war ended while he was still in school and he ended up playing football and baseball as he spent his hitch in Idaho. He mustered out then enrolled at the University of California at Berkeley on the GI Bill and was a two way back, easily the best player in what became the Pac-10 conference.  He was named a consensus All American in his junior year and was also starring on the baseball team, with his pitching and batting prowess leading the school win the first ever College World Series.

He became a darling of the press and exited college a year early, signing with the Oakland Oaks in the PCL. The Oaks then sold his contract to the Yankees, who brought him up in 1950 and he won a World Series ring with them that year. He was playing well by 1952 but couldn't crack the Bombers stacked lineup, so they dealt him to the Senators.  Washington traded him to the Red Sox in 1954 where he had his best years, including his MVP winning 1958 season. He seemed to be peaking but retired after the 1959 season due to a combination of stresses at home and in the air (he had a fear of flying).  He came back for 1961 but that was it.

The 1952 Topps card he's signed here has taken a bit of a hit in the upper left corner and there's some corner rounding but the horizontal image has come through the years nicely. The signature is in blue ballpoint and was given a PSA/DNA grade of NM 7.
