Tommy Harper had a 15-year playing career which included three seasons with the Boston Red Sox between 1972 and 1974.  A speedster, Harper won the stolen base crown twice, in 1969 with the Pilots (73 SB) and in 1973 with the Red Sox (54).  Dislodged from the Red Sox in 1975 due to their trio of young, home-grown outfielders (Jim Rice, Fred Lynn and Dwight Evans), Harper played two more seasons before accepting a position with the Red Sox as an administrative assistant and minor-league instructor, where he would remain in uniform during Spring Training.

Presented here is an "organizational road jersey" and accompanying pants from that 1978 season.  No player or coach wore #5 in 1978, and since Harper did not coach officially beyond Spring Training, we cannot unequivocally guarantee that this uniform was worn by Harper.  However, the word "HARP" is written under the tag inside the jersey, we feel Harper likely wore the uniform during his Spring Training assignment, before moving back to the Front Office as a minor league instructor and offseason PR staffer.  Full LOA from MEARS with a grade of AUTHENTIC, without attribution to Harper.
