Sports Illustrated for Kids is a spinoff magazine by Sports Illustrated.  Launched in January of 1989, the magazine focuses on sports of all kinds, with a greater emphasis on graphics and humor, and a more youthful vocabulary.  Launched in January of 1989, the magazine continues today with a circulation of nearly 1 million monthly copies available by subscription and newsstands.  For many, SI for Kids was not only an introduction to sports, but also an introduction to collecting, via the panels of perforated sports cards bound into each issue.  Many of those cards, particularly the earlier ones, are quite valuable today.

Presented here is a large original owner collection of the magazines, with the cards still bound inside.  While the issues with the most valuable cards have already been removed and sold, each of these issues contains the cards intact and in their entirety.  Condition ranges from VG to EX, as the magazines were actually read by a child at the time of issue.  Card panels also range, as the cards are notoriously printed off-center, and the publications were delivered to the subscriber by mail, leading to mild wrinkling, edge wear and corner dings.

The collection includes the following issues: 1) 1989 (8 issues): January (inaugural issue, Jordan cover, cards include Larry Bird, Mario Lemieux), February (Ryne Sandberg), May (Akeen Olajuwon, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), July (Jerry Rice), August (Cal Ripken Jr., Ivan Lendl), October (Dan Marino), November, December (Mark Messier, John Elway). 2) 1990 (7 issues): January (Brian Leetch), March (David Robinson, Ray Borque), April (Moses Malone), August (Fred McGriff), September (Jack Nicklaus, Ronnie Lott), October (Bo Jackson), December (Jackie Robinson, Pele, Babe Ruth). 3) 1991 (11 issues): January (Lawrence Taylor), February (Barry Bonds), March (Jennifer Capriati), April, May (Al Unser Jr.), June, July, August (Sonja Henning), September (Emmitt Smith), October, November (Mark Gonzales), December (Bobby Orr, Ty Cobb, Jim Thorpe, Bill Russell). 4) 1992 (7 issues): February (Dorothy Hamill),  April (Kirby Puckett, Martina Navratilova, David Robinson), May (Robert Parish, Mark Messier), July, October, November, December (Julius Erving, Lou Gehrig, Jim Brown). 5) 1993 (11 issues): January (Drazen Petrovic, Dan Marino, Jaromir Jagr), April (Junior Seau, Charles Barkley), May (Andre Agassi, Wayne Gretzky), June (Steffi Graf, Barry Bonds), August (Ken Griffey Jr., Dominique Dawes, Sterling Sharpe), September (Sheryl Swoopes), October, November (Brett Favre), December (Muhammad Ali). 6) 1994 (7 issues): January, April, May (Emmitt Smith, Sergei Federov), August (Reggie White), September, October (Joe Montana), December (Bobby Jones). 7) 1995 (11 issues): January, February (Shaquille O'Neal), March (Michael Jordan), April (Barry Sanders), May (Rebecca Lobo, Grant Hill), July (Gary Payton), August (Jason Kidd), September (Eric Lindros), October (Martin Border, Mark McGuire), November, December (Steve Young). 8) 1996 (9 issues): January (John Elway), March (Mario Lemieux, Mia Hamm), May (Steve Yzerman, Magic Johnson, Michelle Kwan, Monica Seles), June, July, August, September, October (cards badly miscut), November. 9) 1997 (7 issues): February, March (Charles Barkley), May (Tony Hawk), June (Derek Jeter), July (Jeff Gordon), August (Lindsay Davenport, Michele Timms), 1997 Yearbook (no cards). 10) 1998 (9 issues): January, February, March (Shawn Kemp, Marion Jones), April, June (Brett Favre), September, October, November (Jerry Rice, Cynthia Cooper), December (Dan Marino).  87 issues total.
