Attractive collector-grade card of Negro League catcher and amateur boxing champion Quincy Trouppe. Trouppe played in the American Negro Leagues for 19 seasons also playing professional ball in the Mexican League and the Canadian Provincial league. In 1952 at 39 years old Trouppe became one of the oldest rookies in major league history breaking in with the Cleveland Indians. Later that season he teamed up with pitcher Sam Jones to become the first African-American battery in American League history. Graded GOOD 30 by SGC the lower grade is largely the result of minor paper loss on the reverse undoubtedly caused by scrapbook removal as many Puerto Rican and Cuban issues were glued into albums or scrapbooks and stored that way.
