Absolutely massive (54" x 28") colorized photo of Philadelphia Athletics pitchers Lefty Grove and George Earnshaw, flanking Mrs. Jack Dunn, the widow of the former Orioles manager, who is crediting with discovering both.  The photo was taken prior to Game 5 of the 1931 World Series, October 7.  The enormous photo, which resembles the cards from National Chicle's R312 "Pastel" issue, is mounted to a heavy backing board and secured inside a wooden, vintage frame with nails.

This photo is huge.  It originates from the collection of Ted Patterson, a former Baltimore Orioles broadcaster, who had, among his enormous memorabilia collection, a world class collection of display items.  Unfortunately, Ted passed before we were able to ask him about the origins of this piece, and so, for now, it is a mystery.  However, it seems reasonable to assume that a piece this large is likely to have once been of some importance, on display in an office or clubhouse, perhaps with Baltimore or with Philadelphia.  Condition is very good, the frame is well worn and somewhat fragile, as the pieces are simply nailed together at the corners and the photo secured with nails hammered in around the reverse.  Though the entire piece is sturdy, we cannot guarantee how it will travel, and it may require some re-assembly upon reaching its destination.  The frame contains no glass.

An interesting piece of both Philadelphia Athletics and Baltimore Orioles history, undoubtedly an incredible research project for an enthusiastic collector looking for a historically meaningful piece to grace their hobby room or den.
